This piece truncates around the 8.30 mark when the hour long spool of tape I was recording the concert on ran out. Hence the fade. I don't think it went on too much longer as I agreed to play for an hour, after which I fielded a few questions from the audience before loading up my gear into the van and went back with my new-found student friends for a home cooked celebration in their rented farmhouse out near Houghall Woods where we listened to the tape very loud no doubt to the delight of the local wildlife.

The Dunholme was the old name for the Durham peninsula, where there was once a dream of a lost Ox which resulted in Saint Cuthbert finding his final resting place. This brief piece contemplates the legend in terms of both the programmatic and the legendary, exploring the enduring landscape that remains steeped in such lore to this very day. Long may it remain so.
