I must point out I had no idea just how long this piece was when I was playing it - time flies etc. Nor yet had I any idea of its innate narrative structures and various emergent themes, ostinatos & ritornellos until I listened back to it. Ordinarily I don't - but in this case I did, back at Melissa & Steve's after the concert, and was delighted by its cohesion as a composition even to the point of making tentative plans with Steve to edit it into two parts for release on vinyl, a plan which, perhaps sadly, came to nothing when Melissa and Steve split up, as young student lovers do.

Whilst the piece is an obvious analogue of Purcell's Welcome to All the Pleasures, all I am is a medium for the music, here moved by the sacredness of the occasion & simplicity of a beautiful little medieval chapel in which I intuitively immersed myself in the creation of a piece of music that perhaps went on a little too long, however so episodic or otherwise pleasing in its character. Far from perfect, it's one piece I can listen to with certain pride, even if just as a memento of what was an unexpectedly delightful occasion.
