Don't be put off by the religious imagery; I was only ever a Roman Catholic to experience The Heresy with a greater intensity. Roman Catholicism is born of the default state of the material universe which is Death, Darkness, Cold and Evil.

It takes energy to shine, it takes fuel to be warm, it takes food to be alive, just as it takes real determination to live a good life without yielding to the defaults of material wealth and self-righteousness and the judgement of others.

When all the fuel is consumed, the material universe will be lifeless, darkness and cold. Hell, as ordained, as the default state of material creation once it has, in effect, burned itself out or else been extinguished spiritually by organised religion and government in the name of a non-existent God*, or else a wholly man-made Law designed solely to maintain systems of oppression and privilege.

This piece is a mediation on Light, Good, Warmth and Life; it is a reliquary of synaesthetic light for a very sacred principle of Being & Becoming regarded as heretical by the Roman Catholic church and for which unknown thousands - some say millions - were massacred under its barbaric rule during the twenty years of the Albigensian Crusade 1209–1229.

To their remembrance I dedicate this music - to the true Gnosis which is the liberation of the human spirit through the lost doctrines of enlightenment that were the true Human-Christian faith, long perished in the flames along with its proponents, just as they crucified Christ for daring to champion the human cause over the spuriously divine.

The Church resurrected Christ in the cause of spurious divinity, mocking this poor, simple prophet with raiments of gold and royal regalia and hailing him as The Messiah when he lived in the undying light of Humanism which is the very light of our species. This is shrouded by long years of hatred perpetuated by the homophobic. sexist, materialist, oppressions of the Roman Catholic Church whose 2,000 year insidious Reich goes from strength to strength, seemingly knowing no bounds to the depths to which it will sink.

And all in the name of one to whom every aspect of so odious a theology would have been complete and total anathema. Not least the beatification of Mother Theresa, who not only withheld pain-killers from her 'patients' - telling them that pain was Jesus 'kissing them' - but would make jokes about their suffering in her speeches. Evil is as evil does! By their works shall ye know them!

The ultimate Heresy is that of the Human Cause of Liberation that would caution against religion, material greed, war, class, apartheid, fascism, oppression, racism, sexism, homophobia, intolerance, hierarchy, righteousness, fundamentalism and all the evils espoused by false Christians over the centuries and endemic in the society which is, after all, its legacy. Even now, anyone who dares speak out against it must watch their backs in fear of being branded a heretic and persecuted accordingly.

So - not only do I dedicate this piece to the Cathars, but to all Martyrs of injustice whose sufferings are legion and, sadly, perpetual.

To the Sacred Light of the True Divine Logos, grant us your Good Warmth in the face of the all consuming bitter evil cold of this Hell-on-Earth that we may ourselves shine and become illuminating even unto the very heavens.

* If God there is, He will be nothing like anything any religion has ever conceived of. We can have as much understanding of God as the slugs in my garden have of the technology I use to create the music I might routinely, and unwittingly, entertain them with on warm summer nights. Do they even hear sound? Can they conceive of Music? Much less of VCOs and LFOs? So it is between us and God.
